Another split screen weekend in Western New York, with warm conditions and potentially severe storms Saturday, followed by unseasonably cold conditions across the region Sunday.
"We're expecting temperatures to be even warmer than they were yesterday," National Weather Service meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo tells WBEN. "Today will be the very last day of the very warm pattern that we've been in," he adds, with highs Saturday topping out in the 70's.
With the end of the warmth will come some potential for volatile weather late in the day Saturday.
"We're tracking an area of showers and embedded thunderstorms ...that'll make its way into our area here today, we are expecting these showers and storms to strengthen as they get into our area."
Much of WNY south of the NYS Thruway is in a slight to marginal risk for severe weather Saturday, particularly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a cold front, bringing an elevated threat of severe weather across Western New York this afternoon through this evening. The showers and storms will quickly move away from the region Saturday evening and the temperature will begin to drop.
"We'll be reaching high temperatures this afternoon in the mid to upper 70's across WNY, but by tonight, by Sunday morning, we'll be looking at temperatures down into the 30's," Pandolfo says, and he says that cold will linger with us for a few days. "Some of those showers could even taper off as a light wet snow."

Hope you didn't put away that Buffalo Sabres heavy winter coat just yet, as you'll need it if you're planning to head to Key Bank Center for the Party in the Plaza or outdoor watch party.
"By tomorrow evening across all of WNY, we're going to be seeing temperatures tumbling down through the 30's," Pandolfo cautions. "By tomorrow night, we're going to be seeing low temperatures actually in the upper 20's across the entire area."
Some scattered showers are also in the Sunday afternoon evening forecast.

"One of the big stories is how much the temperature is going to drop."
