Neither team was able to score in the opening period, despite both having, at least, one power play chance. Buffalo could not convert on their lone power play opportunity, while Minnesota had a pair of man advantages and were 0-for-2.
Both teams were credited with four shots in the opening period.
The first goal of the game came late in the second period when Minnesota capitalized on their fourth power play chance of the night. Danila Yurov's one-time shot was deflected off the stick of Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson and found its way over the left shoulder of goalie Colten Ellis for a 1-0 Wild lead.
The goal was scored with Peyton Krebs in the penalty box for interference.
Minnesota doubled its lead less than two minutes later after creating a transition rush from the defensive zone. Quinn Hughes was able to move the puck into the offensive end, and despite losing the puck, he was able to slide it to Maxim Shabanov for his first goal of the season.
Hughes and Michael McCarron assisted on the goal to make it 2-0, Wild.
The Sabres were able to take advantage of a fortuitous bounce in the offensive zone to cut their deficit in half early in the third period. Power sent a puck toward the front of the net and it redirected off the shin guard of forward Noah Ostlund and into the net. It was Ostlund's first goal of the season, and assisted by Power and Rasmus Dahlin.

The goal came on Buffalo's first shot of the period, and trimmed the Wild lead less than four minutes into the final frame.
Tage Thompson tied the game at 2-2 midway through the third period with a one-timer from the slot on a pass by Krebs. It was Krebs creating the chance, starting with a forced turnover in the Minnesota end.
Not sure what's better, the pass or the goal. 😯#LetsGoBuffalo https://t.co/YLXmxxHbEw

It was Thompson's second goal of the season.
Neither team could find the game-winning goal in regulation, sending the game to a 3-on-3 overtime.
Power's second point of the night ended up being the game-winning goal, as he jumped on the ice from the bench, went into open space to accept a pass from Jiri Kulich, and fired a shot past the blocker of Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt.
