Heavy downpours and thunderstorms

Thunderstorms possible to start the weekend

AccuWeather

(AccuWeather/WBEN) Western New York will see isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms through Saturday, with the best chance for rain inland.

Some thunderstorms could produce brief, heavy downpours. Showers and storms may linger into Saturday morning before becoming more isolated during the afternoon. Another round of spotty showers or thunderstorms is possible late Saturday night.

Conditions improve Sunday as skies clear overnight and sunshine increases. Humidity will ease somewhat, with Sunday expected to be mainly sunny and dry across the region.

Unsettled weather is expected to return late Sunday and continue into Monday.

The same humid and unstable weather pattern will support thunderstorms across parts of the central and eastern United States through the weekend and into early next week.

Some storms could become severe, producing damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning and torrential rain. Heavy downpours may also trigger flash flooding and create travel disruptions, particularly in areas that receive repeated rounds of thunderstorms.

Overall, Western New York should see a gradual improvement by Sunday, though residents should remain alert for brief downpours and lightning through Saturday. The broader eastern U.S. pattern remains active, with additional thunderstorms and flooding concerns possible into next week.
