Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Democratic State Sen. Sean Ryan defeated Republican James Gardner and independent candidate Michael Gainer in the race for Buffalo mayor.

During his campaign, Ryan pledged to implement a multi-phase plan to help revive downtown Buffalo, which has struggled since the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 20,000 daily office workers continue to work remotely, leaving the city’s central business district with low occupancy rates and forcing many restaurants and retail shops to close.

Ryan succeeds outgoing Mayor Byron Brown, marking a new chapter in Buffalo’s leadership as the city focuses on economic recovery and urban revitalization.
