Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WBEN) - Niagara Parks Police are now calling the search for a missing 18-year-old a recovery mission.
State Park Police say Aung Hla had gone out fishing with five of his friends in a restricted area of the lower Niagara River when he slipped on rocks and fell into the water. He entered the water at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday and did not resurface.
Dozens of first responders have searched for the teen using helicopters, boats, jet skis and night-vision drones.
After three days of searching from the Niagara Gorge to the river’s mouth at Lake Ontario, authorities have suspended rescue efforts and shifted to a recovery operation.
