(WBEN) - Erie County has postponed its “716 Celebrates: Stars, Stripes & Signers” event, originally scheduled for Sunday on Buffalo’s waterfront, because of a severe weather forecast that includes thunderstorms and the potential for flash flooding.
The free community event, part of the local commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, will be rescheduled for Labor Day weekend. Organizers are planning a two-day program on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6.
Organizers expect the rescheduled celebration to include live entertainment, historic ships, military-history programming, interactive exhibits, local food vendors, family activities and a fireworks finale over Buffalo’s Inner Harbor.
The postponement allows organizers to expand the America 250 celebration while avoiding potentially hazardous weather conditions expected Sunday.
