Driver, pedestrian identified in Niagara County crash

Niagara, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Niagara County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the pedestrian and driver involved in a serious crash on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Town of Niagara on Saturday night.

44-year-old Andrew Baker of Niagara Falls was walking in the Westbound lane of Niagara Falls Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when 70-year-old Glenn Bookhagen Jr. of Amherst, who was also heading West on the Boulevard, struck Baker.


Baker was initially taken to Mount. St. Mary's Hospital before being transported to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight. His injuries were believed to be life-threatening at the time of the crash.

He remains hospitalized at ECMC.

Bookhagen Jr., who was behind the wheel of a Chevy Malibu, is cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the accident.
