Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) – Two Erie County Sheriff's deputies were struck by a pickup truck while directing traffic outside Highmark Stadium on Sunday after the Buffalo Bills game.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Big Tree and Abbott Roads at around 1 a.m. EST on Monday, as fans navigated snow-covered roads and parking lots to get home.

Erie County Sheriff John Garcia says deputies instructed the driver of a dark-colored GMC Sierra traveling South on Abbott to turn West onto Big Tree Road. The male driver did not comply, and ended up bumping into one of the deputies.

Deputies reported the driver appeared to be intoxicated, and when they asked him if he had been drinking, he fled the scene, hitting another deputy in the process.

Neither deputy was injured.

"It is unacceptable to put law enforcement and the general public at risk of injury like this," said Sheriff Garcia. "I am thankful that nobody was hurt. Our deputies did a tremendous job Sunday night in less-than-ideal conditions."

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call (716)-858-2903.
