Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Thousands of local pets rely on the SPCA Serving Erie County's Pet Food Pantry each month, and the need is only growing.
"It's increased tremendously," said SPCA Chief Communication Officer Gina Lattuca. "Earlier this year, we were giving away 20,000-to-30,000 meals a month. It has practically tripled. In the last couple of months, we have surpassed 60,000 meals a month. We realized we need to do something fast to help people in our community."
This coming Friday, Nov. 21, The SPCA will be collecting donations of unopened, unexpired dry dog or cat food.
There are several ways to donate pet food on Friday:
- Drive-through drop-off at the SPCA, 300 Harlem Rd., West Seneca from 10am- 6pm
- Lumsden McCormick CPA drop-off; 369 Franklin Street, downtown 9am - 12 noon
- Northtown Subaru, 3930 Sheridan Dr., Amherst 9am - 7pm
- Northtown Honda, 2277 Niagara Falls Blvd, Amherst 9am - 7pm
- All seven Anderson’s Frozen Custard locations: Friday, Nov. 21 – Sunday, Nov. 23 | During business hours.

The SPCA's Pet Food Pantry is open daily. Usually they accept open and leftover food. For the event on Friday, the greatest need is for unopened dry dog and cat food. But at the SPCA location, they will accept other food such as canned food and treats.
