Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Catholic Diocese says St. John Vianney School in Orchard Park will not re-open for the upcoming school year. The diocese says the school was unable to meet enrollment goals for the upcoming academic year.
The Diocese says the school was tasked last year to reduce costs, enhance fundraising, and increase enrollment to continue its viability. However, enrollment targets were not met, and the decision to close the school was reached by clerical and lay leadership of the parish and school, in close consultation with the diocese.
The announcement of the school's impending closure began Monday with notification of parents, faculty and staff.
The school had 137 students this past year, and the Diocese says there is room at nearby Catholic schools.
The last day of classes was June 18.
