Mayville, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State Attorney General Letitia James has released body cam footage from two Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies involved in a shooting that killed Mark Bemis back in June. They were responding to a domestic violence incident in Mina.

James says deputies were called to the home on June 18. Body cam video shows deputies encountering Bemis, who was standing outside the house by the open garage, holding a long gun.

After an attempt by one officer to talk Bemis into putting the gun down, Bemis and the deputies exchanged gunfire, where Bemis was struck and killed. Deputies recovered a shotgun at the scene.

The release of this footage follows James’ directive that camera footage obtained by her office during an OSI investigation be released to the public to increase transparency and strengthen public trust in these matters.
