Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A bout of strong to severe thunderstorms will roll into Western New York Tuesday, but conditions will improve fast with showers expected Wednesday and then dry conditions the remainder of the week.
"Today is going to be an active day across Western New York," National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN.
Thunderstorms will come in from Toronto Tuesday morning, though those storms will weaken by the time they arrive in WNY. Not everyone will see rain from this initial round of storms, but things will ramp up this afternoon.
"Some of those thunderstorms could become severe with damaging winds as a primary threat but also locally heavy rainfall. So we'll likely see the chance for showers and thunderstorms into the evening hours with those scattered strong storms across the area," Kenyon says.
There's a wide window for when we'll see the most action, with Kenyon telling us storms will hit intermittently between noon-10pm Tuesday.
"There's going to be plenty of dry time between the rounds of thunderstorms, but that's the best potential for any of the storms to become severe."
