Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Monday afternoon marks the deadline for submissions for a permanent 5/14 Memorial to remember those killed in the racially motivated mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue back on May 14, 2022.
Rev. Mark Blue says there have been several submissions made already, both locally and nationally, and is looking forward to seeing any other submissions today. But he hasn't taken a look at any already submitted. "I wanted to make sure I have fresh eyes to view all the submissions at the same time," explains Blue.
Blue says the next step is to present the submissions on January 24th. "We're sharing the results of the survey as well during that community meeting, and seeing how the community would gauge it and look at what's going on, and they'll take steps with cues from the community," adds Blue.
He says there's no set deadline on selecting a submission. Blue says he and the commission will take the decision step by step.
10 people were killed, three others were wounded in the mass shooting at Tops on Jefferson on May 14, 2022.
