Here comes summer across the Buffalo-Niagara and Western New York region as both heat and humidity will be on the increase as the work week unfolds.

"We are looking at a stretch of warm weather this week," National Weather Service meteorologist Tony Ansuini tells WBEN. "Today will likely be the coolest day of the week, with temperatures in the lower 80's and low humidity."

It will remain in the 80's through the rest of the week as well.

"A few spots getting close to 90 degrees, but the humidity levels will start to rise, making temperatures feel a bit more uncomfortable," Ansuini cautions.

It gets a little bit warmer each day as the week unfolds, too.

"It looks like the warmest day of the week is probably going to be on Thursday," Ansuini says. "And on Friday we could be looking at heat index values reaching the lower to mid 90's on those days."

As the heat builds, the place to escape it will be along the shores of the the lakes.

"The warmest spots will be inland, away from the cooler lakeshores," Ansuini notes. "The downtown area will probably be the coolest spot, but once you move inland, that's where you're going to see those temperatures close to 90."

There will be some chances of showers, too, as the week unfolds, particularly midweek, and temperatures will moderate was the weekend approaches.

"We're getting close to summer, a couple weeks from now," Ansuini reminds us. "We're going to see these temperatures warm up again, so we'll see more days in the 80's and close to 90 in the next few weeks or so."
