Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A grand jury has handed up a superseding indictment against Rickey Crouch, who is accused of gunning down his ex-girlfriend Amanda Thompson earlier this month.
The indictment totals nine counts, including first degree murder.
Prosecutor say Crouch fatally shot Thompson on the 600 block of South Ogden Street in the City of Buffalo. He is accused of intentionally causing physical injury to Thompson while knowingly in violation of an existing order of protection.
Thompson died at the scene.
Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane says Crouch committed three separate domestic violence-related crimes involving the same victim.
The first being in April when Keane says Crouch broke into the bedroom window of Thompson's home. He says Thompson's son tried to lock Crouch out after he left with property. He's also accused of kicking in the door and making physical contact with the son.
No charges were filed.
Then in May, prosecutors say Crouch broke down a door and grabbed Thompson's throat during the incident in the presence of a juvenile.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Crouch was arraigned on:
- One count of Burglary in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony);
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony);
- One count of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Class “E” felony);
- One count of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation;
- One count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class “A” misdemeanors);
- One count of Harassment in the Second Degree (violation).
At the arraignment, the prosecutor from Keane's office requested that Crouch be remanded. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond, which was posted by the defendant.
Temporary orders of protection were issued on behalf of the victims.
After posting bail that day, Keane says Crouch drove by the victim’s home and the home of the victim’s relative while knowingly in violation of an existing order of protection. That caused the victim to be harassed, annoyed and alarmed, according to Keane.
Crouch is scheduled to return before Justice Vacco for a pre-trial conference on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail.
If convicted of the highest charge, Crouch faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
