Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Charges have been filed against a Buffalo man in connection with a pair of shooting incidents Thursday. 48 year old Jeremy Griffin is charged with shooting a woman on Pennsylvania Street, then opening fire at a methadone clinic on Virginia.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn tells WBEN Griffin is charged with attempted murder for shooting a woman's leg inside a residence on Pennsylvania Street. She is being treated at ECMC for a non life-threatening injury.
Flynn says Griffin walked to a methadone clinic and fired a shot into a wall. "He actually legally purchased the rifle, but it is the extended magazine that he allegedly had on the rifle that made it illegal. So, he's got two more weapons charges from the second incident, along with a reckless endangerment charge for allegedly shooting into the building," says Flynn.
Flynn credits two security guards inside the clinic and two bystanders outside with bringing Griffin down. "Quite frankly, if it wasn't for the heroic efforts of the two security guards and two individuals who were outside as well, who assisted. This could have been a much more tragic situation," says Flynn. He says those who got involved saved lives.
Flynn says Griffin was familiar to those at the clinic. "I'm not going to elaborate why he was known there anything like that at all. But he had been in that methadone clinic before," says Flynn. He also would not elaborate on the motive, which police say was drug robbery.
A judge has ordered a forensic examination. Griffin is to return to court Tuesday.
