ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WBEN).....Last year, Orchard Park recorded 17 homes that sold for more than $1 million.
This year, with the year not even half over, Orchard Park has just notched its 16th house to sell for more than the key $1 million-plus threshold.
In the latest deal, an eight-bedroom house at 35 Red Brick Road sold for $1.975 million, six years after it sold for $1.08 million.
The 10,125-square-foot house was constructed in 2009.
The sale serves as a snapshot for how active the upper end housing market continues to be across the Buffalo Niagara region.
To date, there has been 42 homes that sold for more than $1 million - meaning a deal for $1 million-plus home has closed once every four days.
Erie County is on a pace to sell at least 85 houses this year that went for more than $1 million.
Last year, Erie County had 105 homes sell for more than $1 million - a new record for the county. Clarence led the pack with 30 $1 million-plus home sales last year and Clarence has recorded 14 $1 million-plus home sales this year.
Why does all this matter?
The sale of houses going for north of the $1 million benchmark is considered a key economic sign within the region's residential real estate industry.
