Sweet Home Schools are getting ready to welcome students back next week and the district is dealing with a problem many school districts would like to have: growing enrollment.
"We have had a lot of registrations this summer and we are calculating those numbers now, but over the past five years, we've had about 600 students move into the district," said Sweet Home Superintendent Mike Ginestre on WBEN.
The growth is putting pressure on the district's classroom space, and it's the reason why Sweet Home is moving ahead with a $91 million dollar capital project.
"We're going to have shovels in the ground this year to add six new classrooms at Maplemere Elementary, and we're also adding classrooms at Heritage Heights and Glendale Elementary."
In addition the district is adding turf fields at the High School for baseball and softball.
Ginestre said 50 different languages are spoken in the district and because of that they are hiring more ENL (English as a New Language educators) and special ediucation teachers.
As Sweet Home prepares to open its doors on Wednesday, September 9th, Ginestre added, they're "ready to go, day one."
