Teen faces manslaughter, reckless driving charges in deadly Cheektowaga crash

A 15-year-old is accused of killing a local woman in a crash in October

Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - Police in Cheektowaga have charged a 15-year-old driver in connection with a fatal crash that occurred back on Oct. 23 on Union Road near the Kensington Expressway.

Authorities say the teen was driving a vehicle with another 15-year-old passenger when it collided with a car driven by 54-year-old Heather Cottone. Cottone was ejected from her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the teen was arrested back on Dec. 16 and charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

Following arraignment, the teen was remanded to the Youth Services Secure Center. The case is being handled as a juvenile matter and is awaiting trial.

The passenger was not reported to be injured, and no additional charges have been announced.
