Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County District Attorney John Flynn addressed a stabbing that took place inside the Buffalo School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management on West Huron Street in the City of Buffalo on Tuesday.
According to Flynn, a 16-year-old girl is accused of stabbing a 17-year-old classmate inside a bathroom with a knife similar to a steak knife. The suspect is being held without bail.
The suspect was arraigned Wednesday morning before Youth Part Judge Brenda Freedman on one count of Assault in the First Degree (Class "B" violent felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Class "A" misdemeanor).
Flynn says the 16-year-old stabbed the victim three times during the fight, actually doing enough damage to puncture a lung with one of the stab wounds.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Oishei Children's Hospital with injuries to her back.
The adolescent offender is scheduled to return on Monday, Sept. 19 at 12:30 p.m. ET for a felony hearing. She was held without bail, which was something Flynn is pleased with.
"I want to, quite frankly, applaud the judge here for remanding this 16-year-old in jail without any bail," said Flynn during a meeting with the media on Wednesday.
While Flynn does acknowledge it may seem harsh for the want to hold a 16-year-old female without bail, "I have to meet harsh punishment with harsh action."
