Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The hustle and bustle at the Broadway Market in Buffalo was at a feverish pitch Good Friday as lines formed at many of the more than 80 vendors who operate at the market during the Easter season.
"It has been packed with people since we opened the Easter season," said a proud Mayor Byron Brown as he celebrated the Easter crowd at the market Friday. Brown said the market has already seen more than 100,000 visitors during the season which began April 1 and runs through April 15.
Market manager Kathy Peterson says it's been a wonderful season at the historic market on Broadway at Fillmore in Buffalo. Vendors are pleased, she says, with business rushing back to pre-pandemic levels. "We're right back to where they were from 2019 and many of the vendors have said their numbers increased from 2019."
The Broadway Market will be open 6am to 5pm Saturday, closed Easter Sunday and then will reopen for Dyngus Day Monday.
"It is great to see the Broadway reclaim its rightful place as the most visited Easer destination in all of WNY," said Mayor Brown as crowds were seen walking by with arms and bags full of produce, meats, flowers and candies.
The Broadway Market is an important epicenter of the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and Brown says millions of dollars is being invested in the area to revitalize one of the most diverse sections of the City of Buffalo, says Brown.
