Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo city officials say an employee of the Buffalo Public School District received a threat Wednesday afternoon, but there's no imminent threat.

The city issued this statement:

"The city is aware of a threatening communication that was received this afternoon by a Buffalo Public Schools employee who works at City Hall. The threat was directed at a specific individual. While it was considered credible and is being taken seriously, there is no indication there was an imminent threat to the safety of other City Hall employees or the public.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Buffalo Public Schools directed its employees working at City Hall to shelter in place and is dismissing those employees for the remainder of the day. No other City Hall employees have been impacted.

"The Buffalo Police Department and City Hall security staff were immediately notified. The incident remains under investigation, and law enforcement will continue to monitor the situation and take any additional steps that may be warranted."
