BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo's Outer Harbor will host the "Thunder on the Buffalo Waterfront" on Father's Day Weekend.

The event is usually held at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, but military officials in March were forced to cancel the event because of the risk of coronavirus to service members, civilian employees, and families.

The two-day event will be held on June 19 and 20 near the northern end of the Outer Harbor.

Leading the show are the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, who will be flying their new "Super Hornet", which is 33% louder, faster, and bigger than the previous hornet, Ben Canetti, Director of the air show, said.

"In typical fashion, we've pulled in one heck of a lineup," Canetti said. "We have the F-16 Wiper Demo Team from the Air Force's Air Combat Command. The Marine Corps is sending us a couple of Ospreys. That's the helicopter than turns into an airplane and vice versa."

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Those interested in going to the event can either buy a single VIP ticket, which will give you closest access to the planes for $139. Those tickets will be sold in groups of 2 or 4. All tickets include reserved seating, parking, catered lunch, complementary drinks, and a lanyard.

You can also buy a ticket based on a five-person vehicle for $149 or upgrade to an 8-person vehicle for $199. A standard VIP ticket on the lawn will be $99.

"Buffalo is one of the only cities on the Great Lakes that doesn't have an air show, annually," Canetti said. "From Toronto, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Chicago, it's pretty exciting because I was born and raised in this town and can bring this to Buffalo."

Canetti said he wasn't sure if the move from Niagara Falls to Buffalo will be a permanent one, saying they will evaluate how this year goes before making a decision on the future.

You can purchase a ticket by clicking here. Approximately 1,300 VIP tickets will be sold each day and only 1,000 cars each day. A portion of the proceeds for the show will go directly to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park's campaign to "Save the Sullivans".
