Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - With the deadline approaching for the federal tax credit for energy efficient appliances, are many rushing to get their orders in by the last minute?
Chris Reading of Roy's says the federal tax credit is going away for high efficiency air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces. The tax credit under the Clean Energy credit is also going away. "I think that the hybrid systems where you're utilizing the gas furnaces with the energy efficient heat pumps is the best system that's out there at this present time. And by offering incentives, I mean, homeowners want those incentives. It helps them. Everybody's tight on cash right now, so getting those incentives is very important," says Reading.
Reading says there are a number of customers calling daily. "I don't think there's that many more that are calling in, but as homeowners become more aware that they are ending, I'm sure those numbers will increase," says Reading. He's hopeful the incentives return. Reading says National Fuel has credits ending this year.
NYSEG issued this statement: “NYSEG’s current incentive offerings for the New York State Clean Heat Rebate Program are available at nyseg.com/heatpumps. The Company will continue to offer energy efficiency product incentives in 2026 to help customers control project and energy costs. Details about future incentive rates will be announced later this year.
NYSEG encourages customers who have questions about tax credits associated with energy efficiency to contact a certified public accountant to understand how it will impact their specific situation.”
