Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) The help wanted sign is up in the Town of Tonawanda as the town sets up its ambulance service in 2025. The town is looking for paramedics and EMTs.
Paramedic supervisor Matt DeRosa says there already are 23 paramedics, 16 full time and seven part time. "Currently we're looking to hire 20 full time EMTs and potential for two additional paramedics," says DeRoda. He says anybody who applies needs to be already certified as a New York State Emergency Medical Technician for the EMT position, or already certified as a New York State paramedic for the paramedic position.
Those interested in applying should go to the Erie County Department of Personnel website under the continuous recruitment page for the paramedic or EMT positions.
DeRose says preparations continue to launch the ambulance service. "Currently, the ambulances are at the distributor. They're making some safety upgrades that don't necessarily come from the factory that way to make sure that we have all options and safety features available," says DeRose, but does not have a specific timeline for when it will begin.
