North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - The cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda are partnering up this Fourth of July weekend to celebrate America 250 in style.

"Fireworks on the Erie Canal" is set to take place this Saturday evening in the Twin Cities in celebration of America's 250th year of independence. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. along the Renaissance Bridge, which connects North Tonawanda and Tonawanda, and will conclude with fireworks at the base of the bridge near Gateway and Webster Street in North Tonawanda.

Fireworks will be visible for miles for residents on both sides of the Erie Canal, courtesy of Skylighters Fireworks NY - a locally owned and operated professional fireworks company for over 30 years.

“It is always so very special when we join together with our neighbor to do something wonderful for the citizens and communities of the great Twin Cities," said North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec. "This year as we mark the 250th anniversary of America, we are making this year’s event bigger and better than ever. It’s going to be super exciting and we’re so grateful to have so many wonderful community minded local businesses and organizations from both cities who have partnered with us to make it a most memorable Fourth of July.”

The “Fireworks on the Erie Canal” event is entirely paid for by the generous support of community business sponsors. No public dollars are used to support the event.
