Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - If you're looking for restaurants with waterfront views in Buffalo, there's Liberty Hound, Charlie's Boat Yard, RiverWorks, and Panorama on Seven (in LECOM Harborcenter).
Templeton Landing at Erie Basin Marina is closed to the public and only open for special events.
Fillmore District Common Council member Mitch Nowakowski chaired a waterfront meeting Wednesday and tells WBEN that after a 25-year lawsuit over the property, Templeton Landing is transferring ownership to a private equity firm based in California.
"They didn't commit too much to me," said Nowakowski, but "reading between the lines, it might not stay Templeton Landing after the sale. It would go under private ownership and could be sold to a developer."
He said that property is an example of an underutilized waterfront.
"I'm pushing back on Templeton Landing because specialty events do not promote economic activity like a business that is open five or six days a week."
Nowakowski says a lot can be learned from other waterfront cities.
"Cleveland, to me, is the most comparable," he said, as he also mentioned Baltimore. "They do really well as year-round destinations. A large part of our waterfront is just getting people to want to walk down there. Is it pedestrian friendly? The nature and beauty of our natural resource will get people down there and if you have amenities that will bring the people in."
