Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Across the country, some airports are warning travelers to arrive as many as four hours before their flight time to allow additional time for TSA screening.

It's happening as TSA agents are seeing partial - and soon to be empty - paychecks due to the partial government shutdown, causing there to be more-and-more of them who are walking off the job.

It's something even the most seasoned travel experts have never seen before.

"Even when we saw the delays in the fall when we saw the government shutdown, we didn't see that," said Elizabeth Carey with AAA of Western and Central New York. "The pictures of people lined up in the parking lots is just unbelievable."

Carey says following not only your airline's apps and social media, but those of the airport you're traveling through can help keep you prepared for any delays. It's best to be prepared, because oftentimes, TSA delays do not fall under an airline's refund policy.

Despite the fear of delays and even several new travel advisories for Mexico and the Middle East, the spring travel season does not appear to be slowing down.

"It's definitely complicated, however people are traveling," Carey said. "You would think people are saying, 'Oh my gosh this is just too much of a hassle,.' But people still want to get away."
