Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Western New York will see cooler air move in Wednesday, about 10 degrees below normal, after a Tuesday that saw torrents of rain and strong to severe storms hit the region.
National Weather Service meteorologist Heathern Kenyon tells WBEN there were multiple reports of trees down after storms struck Northern Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties.
"We had saw reports of anywhere from 1.5"-2.5" (of rain)...that mostly fell in southern Niagara County and Northern Erie County," Kenyon said Wednesday morning.
The rain we saw Tuesday was the result of a "train event", where clusters of rainfall move over one area rapidly, just like a train would carry a series of cars.
"What occurred was thunderstorms developed across the Niagara peninsula and Ontario, as well as the Niagara frontier and they just moved over the same area from west to east for a few hours," Kenyon tells WBEN.
Wednesday will see scattered rain showers across the region with temperatures likely not reaching 70 degrees in Buffalo. A gradual warmup and dry weather will take us into the weekend, with the next chance of rain coming Sunday.
