Batavia, N.Y. (WBEN) - Michael J. Elmore, 33, and Lyndsey Jean Wilcox, 39, both of Batavia, have been arrested following the Sunday morning on-duty death of Genesee County Sheriff's Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello at Batavia Downs.
Sanfratello began to escort Elmore and Wilcox from Batavia Downs after they began to attack him. Sanfratello became unresponsive during the fight and was pronounced dead after life-saving efforts were administered.
The City of Batavia Police Department alleges that Elmore intended to injure Sanfratello.
Elmore has been charged with three felonies, including first degree aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault upon a police officer and second degree burglary.
Wilcox has been charged with two felonies, including second degree burglary and second degree attempted assault.
Sgt. Sanfratello was a 32-year veteran of the force.
