Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Two Buffalo area bars are among 36 across New York State that recently had their liquor licenses suspended after investigators found 'egregious violations of pandemic-related Executive Orders' according the information released Tuesday by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
On November 8th, the Erie County Department of Health conducted an inspection of a crowded premises at 'The Cowboy' on West Chippewa in Buffalo and found approximately 30 patrons drinking and not wearing face coverings. The DOH had previously visited the establishment in August and issued a warning. The State Liquor Authority has suspended the license of 'The Cowboy' as a result.
In West Seneca, the Clinton Bar & Grill has had their license suspended by the state after a November 18th visit by the State Liquor Authority. Investigators observed a crowded atmosphere with approximately 20 patrons around a bar drinking well after the mandatory 10pm statewide closing time.
Businesses found in violation of COVID-19 regulations face fines up to $10,000 per violation, while egregious violations can result in the immediate suspension of a bar or restaurant's liquor license.
A total of 279 liquor licenses have been suspended during the coronavirus pandemic. In total, 1,867 charges have been filed against bars and restaurants for violating rules meant to stop the spread of COVID-19
Seven establishments' liquor licenses were suspended for illegally operating in state-designated micro-cluster zones, which are subject to stronger restrictions due to increased COVID spread in the community.
