BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN)......Buffalo firefighters, twice with 10 hours, were called to deal with a pair of minor fires at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn.

And, in each instance - the hotel was evacuated as a precaution but no injuries were reported and the Hilton Garden Inn remains open and fully operational.

"We did what we are trained to do," said Buffalo Battalion Chief Tom Breski.

The first fire - reported around 2:20 Monday morning - began in a second floor closet where it is believed a light ballast overheated. The hotel's sprinkler system extinguished the fire.

Damage total was approximately $20,000, fire officials said.

The second fire, reported at 11:40 a.m. Monday is believed to have started exhaust from a back-up generator may have melted some spring foam - triggering the fire between the first and second floors on the Main Street side off the hotel.

Again, the hotel was evacuated as a precaution, Battalion Chief Breski said.

The fire was listed as a first alarm/ high rise assignment because it was a hotel, Breski said.

"It was better to be safe," he said.

Damage was estimated at $200,000.

Both fires remain under investigation and the hotel is open.
