Two jail management Sheriff's deputies injured in separate incidents Tuesday

Both injured deputies were taken to the hospital to be further evaluated

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday a pair of incidents that resulted in two members of the Jail Management Division being injured on Tuesday.

The first incident took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. EST when an incarcerated individual at the Erie County Holding Center in Downtown Buffalo stole a sandwich from the food tray.

A deputy confronted the incarcerated individual and told him to return the sandwich. An altercation ensued, resulting in the deputy suffering injuries to his neck and shoulder. The deputy was taken to Erie County Medical Center for further evaluation.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Then at approximately 5:20 p.m. EST, an incarcerated individual at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden refused to lock in his cell. After being instructed to do so, the incarcerated individual defied the instruction and began throwing punches at two corrections officers.

One officer was struck by one of the punches, and ended up being evaluated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for head and knee injuries.

The incarcerated individual in this incident has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
