Woodlawn, N.Y. (WBEN) - New York State Park Police say they shut down an unauthorized, un-permitted party at Woodlawn Beach on Monday. One person was arrested in connection with the incident, which involved several fights.

Officials were made aware of social media posts planning a large unauthorized and un-permitted party with approximately 1,500 people at the park.

State Park Police identified and interviewed potential organizers in an effort to prevent disruptions to the general public’s use of the beach.

Police say some in the crowd were seen fighting, consuming alcohol and refusing police orders. After several fights, Park Police ordered the beach closed around 8:40 p.m., about an hour after the incident began.

Multiple agencies assisted Park Police with handling the situation, including New York State Police, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Hamburg Police, Cheektowaga Police, Evans Police, Town of Tonawanda Police, Orchard Park Police and West Seneca Police Departments.

One arrest was made, and the investigation into the event’s organizers is ongoing.

Anyone with information about Monday’s gathering or future, unauthorized events is encouraged to contact the New York State Park Police at (716)-278-1777.
