Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - While a lot of attention Monday was placed on the Kensington Expressway tunnel project, simultaneously, many are still focusing on and anticipating another massive infrastructure project in the Scajaquada transformation where a slower park-like setting is being sought.

Stephanie Geter, President of Restore Our Community Coalition, says the current project is moving forward after the previous one was rejected. "Now they are fast moving forward with what they believe is what they want to live with," says Geter. She says it's one road, so she's talking with the state and others on how to blend the 198 and 33 together. Geter says from a neighborhood perspective, planning this process means everything planning it together.

Geter wants a healthy park in the Scajaquada area. "First of all, we want that park to be reflective of the park that's here, with (Martin Luther) King Park, we want them to go from one to the other to feel like you're in the same space," explains Geter. "It's a freeway right now, just fly through. Then, when they get down this way, they're still flying through. We want to change the narrative on all of that with the late night races," adds Geter.

Geter hopes the Scajaquada project will begin during work on the Kensington. "If you're going to have to roll, let's do it at once, right? We believe it's fair game; one road, one construction," believes Geter.

Geter is also excited about additional aesthetic and safety improvements. "We will get some trees and lights that work," adds Geter.
