REPORT: US-Canada border to remain closed until November

Ban on non-essential travel between the two countries first imposed in March

Peace Bridge

(WBEN) - A report from CTV News in Canada states that Canada and the United States are expected to extend existing border restrictions until November.

It would be the sixth time restrictions have been extended since the border was closed to all non-essential travel in March. The current agreement between the two countries restricting travel was set to expire September 21. CTV reports that the restrictions will remain in place until it is felt that the COVID pandemic is under control. Tourists and cross-border visits remain prohibited. Trade and commerce are exempted, as are certain family members, providing a 14-day quarantine is strictly followed.

Just this week, Canada's total COVID-case count reached the highest it's been since May. The rising numbers had prompted the Province of Ontario to pause all re-openings for four weeks.
