New drone footage captures progress of construction at Highmark Stadium

The new stadium is slated to open later this summer

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - In partnership with WKBW-TV, new drone footage taken of the new Highmark Stadium highlights progress made on construction of the state-of-the-art facility set to open later this summer.

Among the highlighted features in this video includes the field, seat installment and a look at the new video board.

The new seats features a gradient pattern throughout the entire stadium of red and blue seats. The new seats also allow fans to feel closer to the action than in the old Highmark Stadium across the street along Abbott Road.

The drone footage also captures the tall, vertical outer structure of the stadium that includes the perforated steel panels, as well as large windows that mark the entrances to the building. The outer structure pays tribute to the classic architecture around Buffalo, giving fans a feeling of nostalgia while still demonstrating a modern design.

Other noticeable takeaways from the new footage includes the completed installation of the instant grass field. The two acres of Kentucky Blue grass differs from the previous stadium's artificial turf, especially with the installation of an electric heating and irrigation system underneath to maintain a strong surface.

The footage released also highlights the new video board located at the North side of the new stadium. This state-of-the-art scoreboard provides more clarity and contrast, enhancing fan experiences when combined with the powerful speaker system installed throughout the stadium.

The stadium will also increase fan experiences by protecting them from the harsh Buffalo weather. The perforated metal screens along the outside walls of the stadium reduce wind gusts inside the stadium, avoiding negative pressure that can allow for whipping winds and colder temperatures.

These panels work with the 360-degree fixed canopy that covers roughly 64% of seats, and works to melt heavy snow and keep fans warm during later season games.

The new Highmark Stadium is slated to open in time for kickoff for the 2026 Bills season.
