Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Attorney General Letitia James today released footage from two nearby security cameras that her office obtained as part of its ongoing investigation into the death of Carl Slone, who died on January 10, 2026 following a motor vehicle collision involving an off-duty member of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office in Buffalo.
At approximately 3:17 p.m. on January 9, the off-duty ECSO deputy was pulling out of a parking lot on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo when he fatally struck Slone, a pedestrian. Slone was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on January 10.
The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) of the Attorney General’s Office released footage from two nearby security cameras that captured the incident. James says this follows her’ directive that camera footage obtained by her office during an OSI investigation be released to the public to increase transparency and strengthen public trust in these matters.
She adds the release of this footage is not an expression of any opinion as to the guilt or innocence of any party in a criminal matter or any opinion as to how or whether any individual may be charged with a crime.
