Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) A warehouse fire closed off parts of Walden Avenue during the afternoon drive Thursday. There are reports the roof collapsed. No reports of injuries so far.
Cheektowaga Police say around 3pm, they received calls of a building on fire on Dale Road. Firefighters says they saw heavy fire in the building at 1746 Dale Road. Police say the building was being used for storage by a private person and was not an operating business.
Because of the remote location of the building, police say fire fighters needed to cross Walden Ave with their fire hoses. Walden Ave is closed in both directions between Galleria Drive and Thruway Plaza Drive.
Smoke was visible to drivers along the Thruway, and the scent could be detected in Lancaster according to callers.
Firefighters were battling the conditions along with the fire, as the temperature was hovering at 90 degrees with stifling humidity.
