Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - Heavy rain on Monday afternoon led Town of Tonawanda officials to close roads and issue a travel alert.
Portions of Sheridan Drive near Delaware Road were closed due to severe flooding. The intense rainfall caused flash flooding in underpasses and other areas with poor drainage.
The Town of Tonawanda Highway Department advised residents that it could take several hours for the water levels to decrease.
In addition to the flooding, strong winds knocked down several trees in the town.
National Grid reported that around 700 homes experienced power outages for a few hours.
