Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Water Buffalo Club 716 is unveiling a new Buffalo Bills mural by local artist Ken Newton this afternoon in front of the Big Tree Inn before the Buffalo Bills take on the Dallas Cowboys.
Members of the club can be identified by the large blue hats they wear at Bills games that include horns and different insignias.
Founded by Therese Forton-Barnes and a friend, the club now has some 43-hundred members here in Western New York and around the world. They say they like to celebrate the culture and heritage of our great city. Go Go Buffalo! Horns Up!
The hats now come in many different colors. Buy one of the hats they sell and you become a member of the club.
The club theme is based on the 1960’s Flintstone cartoon where Fred and Barney were members of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26. The hats resemble the ones the lodge members wore. The local club makes the Big Tree Inn on Abbott Road their “Lodge” before every Bills home game.
Just last week they inducted Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown into the club and made him the Grand Poobah. During the ceremony he asked if the club had a “password.” The mayor suggested it should be “Abba Dabba Doo”
