Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The West Herr Auto Group donated over $100,000 worth of Thanksgiving food, including over 5,500 turkeys, to local families in need on Friday.

The food, which was delivered by the truckload, was dropped off at Response to Love Center in Buffalo on Friday afternoon. The center will be distributing it throughout the week leading up to Thanksgiving.

President of West Herr, Scott Bieler explains that he wanted to do this because there would have been families in the community unable to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner.

"It's about making people's Thanksgivings better. A lot of us, for our whole lives, have enjoyed a very enjoyable day on Thanksgiving with everything we could ask for, but not everybody gets that. So we're trying to make a difference so more people have that kind of thanksgiving," Bieler stated.

Bieler says none of this would be possible without the help of the community and his employees.

"Western New York, you supported us. We're going to make a difference because of that support in this community. That's who should get the credit, the community, not us," stated Bieler.

Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) and his office is receiving over 300 turkeys, and is going to do a giveaway for local communities.

"This is just a great day, another beautiful celebration of the love of our community, the generosity of our community, and the support, particularly from the Response to Love Center and Scott Bieler of West Herr Automotive Group. I mean, $100,000 in food for the needy in our community in this holiday season is going to go a long way to helping families have a great celebration of life and love of their own families. It's another demonstration of the generosity and the love and community spirit that we have here in the city of good neighbors. I'm honored to be a part of it," stated Kennedy.
