Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Time is running out for Western New Yorkers to get their holiday shipping needs taken care of before Christmas, which is why many hit their local U.S. Post Office this week to ensure their deliveries are in before next Thursday.
Local residents like Susan from Orchard Park only had a couple items to ship out on Wednesday to some family out in Houston, Texas.
"They were very helpful, they guaranteed my package to be there by Saturday. That was the only thing I had to ship, so I'm good," said Susan with WBEN.
While the lines at the post office were not as long on Wednesday, Susan says that hasn't been the case other days this week.
"I was here yesterday also, picking up the box that I needed to ship, and it was a lot busier later in the day," she said. "But it's early yet, so I'm expecting that it's probably going to get way more busier as the day progresses."
As for Madeline from Buffalo, she got her final shipping needs done on Wednesday before next week's Christmas holiday.
"I think I just avoided the rush today, because I live just right over there, so I see constantly the parking lot is just full. So I think I just came out at a good time," Madeline said with WBEN.
Tara from Orchard Park has had most of her holiday shipping needs done for some time, but Wednesday was a good day to send out Christmas cards for family and friends.
"Definitely a week before Christmas, I try and have it all done. I try, but the Christmas cards get out when they get delivered and when they all get their names on them. So sometimes it's a little late," Tara admitted with WBEN.
While some have more items to ship out every Christmas, for others, it's a bit of a lighter load this holiday season.
"I actually don't have to ship anything, I'm very fortunate. I have family locally here, and then we visit my husband's family in Pennsylvania, so we take everything down there when we go. So nothing gets shipped or it just gets directly sent there and we wrap it up there," Tara said.
"Most of my family lives here. We have a few people out of the country I had to ship to, but not too much," Madeline added.
Now with the shipping out of the way for many, what's left to prepare for this Christmas?
"I'm hosting this year, so it's just cleaning and little things that I probably forgot that will come up. But I am ready," said Susan.
"I just have some baking to do, but other than that, I'm pretty much set. Everything's wrapped and ready," Madeline said.
