(AccuWeather/WBEN) - It will be a wet final day of the Erie County Fair in Hamburg. Showers and thunderstorms are expected during the morning, followed by additional showers on and off throughout the afternoon.

Some storms could be stronger, bringing gusty winds and locally heavy rain. National Weather Service Meteorologist David Thomas says the start of the workweek will also be wet and cold.

Cooler and less humid air will spread south behind the storm system Sunday afternoon and evening. Drier weather will follow across much of the region early in the new week.

Monday will bring a cool start, with temperatures in the mid-50s during the morning and only reaching the mid-60s during the afternoon. Temperatures will be about 15 degrees below normal.

Temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels by Wednesday.

An active weather pattern across the United States could fuel severe thunderstorms and flooding across parts of the Plains, Midwest, mid-Atlantic and Northeast during the week ahead.
