Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - We're all feeling it. Winter anticipation. Meteorologist Andy Parker is feeling it too.

"It shouldn't be this nice for this long," he said during an appearance on WBEN on Thursday.

It is very late in the season for Western New York to be waiting for its first flake of snow.

The record for latest snow is Nov. 22, which is not that far away.

"I know some folks have seen snow in the Southtowns and the Southern Tier.
But the official stats are kept at the Buffalo Airport," Parker noted.

It does appear, though, that changes are coming soon.

"The window opens next Thursday for a flake, a single snowflake, not a pile of flakes. The pattern begins to change late next week, as well into more typical November weather," Parker said. "Temperatures will drop into the 30s. The 50s will be a thing of the past."

Lake Erie is currently at 54 degrees. It's near a record for this time of year.
The two years that the lake has been this warm were 2022 and 2000. There were some pretty good lake effect events in both of those years.

As Parker looks further out, he notes it will definitely be open season for lake effect in the final week of November.

So far this fall, the colder air has been West of the Mississippi River. The East has been warmer than normal, but starting late next week, that should change with colder air and grey skies around the Great Lakes.

"It's been a windless, sunny November. It's been a bonus for cleaning up the leaves and it's allowing everyone to get their Christmas lights and stuff in place before they have to do it under the cover of snow," He added. "You can use it to prepare or use it to procrastinate."
