Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - One of Canalside's most popular gathering spots, Wilkeson Pointe, is now open after months of construction.

WBEN spoke with people at the waterfront who have been waiting for Wilkeson Pointe to reopen. Kim Willer of Buffalo says there's more to do in Buffalo now that the park is back open.

"I feel we have very limited waterfront access in the city of Buffalo for the past few years, so it was sad when this park was closed and you couldn't access it. So I'm very thrilled to have it reopened again so that people can come back down and bike around and hang out. Volleyball went away. So many things went away. It's nice to have all that hopefully back very soon."

Fredrick Bennett of Buffalo says now that the park is back open he's excited to get back to fishing along the Buffalo River. Bennett says Wilkeson Point is a great spot to come during the summer.

"On a scale 1 to 10, I put it at a 10," Bennett said. "If you want to come here and meditate and get you something to eat and just relax. I give it a 10, because every time I came down here, I pretty much had a great time."

When the park was shut down there was no place for people to walk at Wilkerson Point. Mike Cryan tells WBEN that Canalside was affected by the park's closure.

"I'm disappointed Canalside doesn't have any events because I keep my boat at Erie Basin, and Canalside is dead," Cryan said. "It used to have an event every Saturday or Sunday, and I feel bad for the Canalside vendors down there."
