Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office assisted in the rescue of a 61-year-old Maryland woman on Saturday from the Eternal Flame Trail at Chestnut Ridge Park.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., the Erie County Sheriff’s Office SWAT/QRF Team was dispatched to the trail to assist the woman, who had reportedly fallen and injured her hip.

Deputy Dan McCarthy, a New York State Certified Paramedic and member of the Medical Response Unit and SWAT Team, worked with Orchard Park Fire EMT's to extract the woman from the trail and transport her to an ambulance.

The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

"This is why my administration emphasizes professionalism and training," said Erie County Sheriff John Garcia in a statement. "Our deputies, particularly those who make up our SWAT/QRF Team and Medical Response Unit, are among the most prepared in the nation for an incident such as this. We have responded to 19 first aid and rescue calls at Chestnut Ridge in the last 12 months. We must be prepared, and we are."
