Police in different parts of the country are investigating after two boys were killed in tragic haunted hayride accidents over the weekend.
On Friday night, 12-year-old Samuel Jessen was attempting to jump on a Halloween-themed hayride at the Haunted Hilltop in Harrison, Tennessee when he slipped and fell underneath the vehicle.
Jessen was part of a group of juveniles hiding in the bushes along the hayride route trying to scare riders, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
"Deputies were told that one of the juveniles had attempted to jump on the trailer and had possibly slipped and fallen underneath the wheels and was found unresponsive," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "Sadly, the juvenile succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene."
A witnesses who was on the ride told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that others tried to help Jessen and were "screaming at the tractor driver to stop" but the driver did not respond and kept going.
"She said Jessen tried to grab the sweatshirt of someone sitting next to her after he first got his foot stuck, but he still was dragged under the trailer," the newspaper reported.
The witness said everyone was "freaking out," and then had to "sit through that ride for 10 minutes" until it reached the end.
Police declined to release additional information because the incident involves juveniles.
Meantime, 13-year-old Alexander Mick died after being run over at a haunted hayride near St. Cloud, Minnesota. It happened at the Harvest of Horror Haunted Hayride in St. Augusta on Saturday night.
"The initial [911] caller reported that a young male had been injured when he was run over by a trolley wagon being pulled by a tractor," the Stearns County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Although an off-duty police officer and off-duty medic provided aid to Mick, he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
The incident remains under investigation.
