A new poll has found that while Former President Donald Trump does not have support to beat President Joe Biden in another presidential election, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis does.

The nationwide poll conducted by the conservative group Club for Growth found that 48% of respondents would choose President Biden in a head-to-head matchup against Trump, while 41% would choose the former president.

Meanwhile, in a matchup against DeSantis, Biden received 42% of the theoretical votes, while the Florida Governor received 45% — though, the pollsters, WPA Intelligence, did share that this is a statistical tie.

However, other surveys, like one conducted by Suffolk University last month, show that DeSantis has a lead over Biden, despite it not being by large margins — 47% in support of DeSantis and 43% for Biden.

The Suffolk University survey also showed similar results for a potential election between Biden and Trump, with the current president leading the former 47% to 40%.

One interesting finding in the Club for Growth survey was the number of respondents who knew the three men. The pollsters asked voters to identify Biden, Trump, and DeSantis, by showing them a photo and asking them to type their names or say they didn’t know who they were.

The poll found that Trump and Biden were known by 98% of respondents, while only 64% knew DeSantis. Even with almost a third less knowing who he was, the Florida Republican was still the favorite among voters.

David McIntosh, the president of Club for Growth, shared with NBC News that among all three candidates, DeSantis has the most “room to grow.”

“He still has high favorable, he still beats Biden, whereas Trump loses to him,” McIntosh told NBC News. “As more people start to recognize DeSantis, his face, there’s a lot of upside for him to grow and get stronger.”

DeSantis has continued to gain support throughout the last half decade, which includes turning a once purple state into a now red force, having won his reelection by nearly 20 points in 2022.

However, despite all of this, Trump remains the only person to announce he is running for the White House in the 2024 election.
