At least 10 people are dead and at least 30 more people are injured after a driver plowed through a crowd of New Year's revelers in the French Quarter.

It happened around 4 a.m. Wednesday on Bourbon Street near Iberville Street.

Several witnesses told WWL-TV's reporters that they heard gunshots as that car ran through the mass of people. Another witness told WWL-TV that a nearby hotel evacuated because of bomb threat that was phoned in around the same time as the crash.

New Orleans police, other law enforcement agencies, and EMS crews are lining Canal Street as they work the incident.

City officials are urging people to stay away from the area.

Governor Jeff Landry has been briefed about the situation. He posted a message about the incident on Twitter.

This is a developing story.
